Peskov: Kremlin knows nothing about location of Wirecard’s ex-COO

MOSCOW, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- The Kremlin knows nothing about alleged bringing to Russia of German fintech company Wirecard’s former Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jan Marsalek, who disappeared in June amid a scandal in the company, President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

“No, we know nothing,” Peskov said.

German newspaper Handelsblatt reported earlier quoting sources that Marsalek was transported to a locality to the west of Moscow by the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, known as the GRU. The daily said the former executive had earlier transferred to Russia a sizeable sum in bitcoins from Dubai, where Wirecard was involved in obscure transactions.

German magazine Der Spiegel said earlier that Marsalek had entered Belarus and could be either there or in Russia.

One of the leaders of Germany’s IT market, Wirecard revoked in June its financial statement for 2019 after auditors discovered the absence of 1.9 billion euros on its books.
